Ali Akan Advanced (or Phase II)

The following is a preliminary list of subjects which we feel should be
included in the workshop:

-         Explore the potential acquired through Basic Ali Akan for further study
of various areas of interest through different types and genres of Akan
texts (literary/colloquial/traditional/modern/monologal/conversational).

-         Rehearse elementary skills not covered in Ali Akan I, such as
becoming comfortable with conventional Akan orthography, reading texts
without tone marking, etc.,

-         Strengthen capacities in using  ICT technologies in one's own
research, building a text database,  principles of computer-supported text
analysis,  text/lexicon interface (e.g. Shoebox) etc.

-         Introduction to Akan text grammar and prosody.

Beyond that, much is open and will depend in part on the preferences of the participants.

Possible areas:

1. Advanced module on key areas of Akan linguistics (depending on interest:
phonetics, prosody, syntax,
discourse analysis, lexicology, practice on text and conversation analysis)
2. Inroads on Akan literature, historical or cultural texts (depending on
available sources)
3. Work with videos (plays, discussions).
4. Perhaps other subjects to be proposed.

The basic idea is to provide introductions during the Workshop period to
the main subjects and guidance towards your own work  which may be
continued after the workshop, including occasional exchanges over the
Mailinglist.
